The long way around….

August 2012. Forests, mountain roads, salt air- and a friendship that didn’t look like much at first.

It started quietly. Entertaining conversations, long miles, shuffled playlists, questionable large fires, and shared beers. Time spent wandering the roads and coastline like there was nowhere else to be. What began as messing around in the mountains slowly turned into something harder to ignore. It wasn’t dramatic. It wasn’t instant. It was slow, steady, undeniable and just reckless enough to matter. Tyler should have known Skye was the one when Lumpy (then a puppy) ate his favorite travel shoes, shat them out behind his couch and yet he still wanted her around.

By 2016 we weren't just adventuring - we were building a life. We moved in together and Tyler stepped fully into parenting three just as wild kids, turning “us” into something bigger and better than we even expected. The years that followed were loud and meaningful: airports, road trips, punk rock shows, bonfires, late nights, early mornings and some what-the-f*ck projects.

Through every high and every mess, one thing never changed: we remained best friends. Not just partners. Not just parents. Best friends. The kind who choose each other again and again.

Now in 2027 that choice becomes a vow.

From the forest of the Pacific Northwest to the jungles of Ubud, this has always been a story about the long way- the wild way- the only one that ever made sense to us.

Buckle up, we’ve waited 5,393 days for this, we will party accordingly…

“Skye is pretty much the coolest person to ever exist on earth.”

The Proposal

Skye and Tyler had ventured out on their first day inside of Komodo National Park, the first stop was Padar Island for a climb up 700-800 stairs to make it to the top of the island giving a breathtaking view. It was hot and sweaty work, but totally worth it!

The next stop was Pink Beach (one of many pink beaches, but most are protected and not open to visitors). The sand really is a gorgeous soft blush pink thanks to the deep pink/burgundy coral that lives in the surrounding reef. The opportunity to cool off was a welcome reprieve after the Padar hike! It didn’t take Ty and Skye long to find a spot of shade under a casuarina tree and throw ourselves into the ocean! After some time relaxing Ty pulled a ring out of his board shorts and held it above water to (finally) pop the question. Skye thought it was a joke at first, but after the shock wore off she said YES!

“I could not have picked a more beautiful place for the proposal, then getting to go see Komodo dragons immediately after made for the most incredible perfect day!”
